The Honest Cry of Faith
This week we learned that God meets us in our groaning—whether it's the chronic illness that won't heal, the prayers that seem unanswered, or the silence we struggle to embrace. From creation's labor pains to the journey to Bethany, we're discovering that our deepest suffering is not evidence of God's absence, but the very place where He draws near. As we prepare to explore what we're learning about love, we're reminded that even when we can't feel Him, He is holding us.

Light for Your Path: Chronic Illness - When Creation Groans With Us
If you woke up in pain again today, exhausted from watching others do things your body won't let you do—you're not alone. This forest, these trees, this ground are groaning with you. Romans 8 reveals that all creation was "subjected to futility" and groans for redemption. Your chronic illness exists in this same fallen reality, and your groaning isn't evidence of weak faith—it's sharing in creation's labor pains as something new is being born.
"This tree didn't choose to die. Creation is broken—it decays, suffers disease, depends on what it can't control. That's chronic illness. And you don't stop being you when your body won't cooperate."
Hope for the chronically ill:
• Even Jesus groaned in the presence of death and decay (John 11)
• The Spirit intercedes with groanings when you're too exhausted for words
• Your body's redemption is coming—physical resurrection, not just spiritual comfort

New Song: The Journey to Bethany - John 11:1-35
Experience the powerful journey to Bethany through this musical rendering of John 11:1-35. From the moment word reaches Jesus that Lazarus is sick, through His deliberate delay, to Martha's profound confession and the moment Jesus weeps—every word of Scripture set to music.
"Lord, behold, the one whom You love is sick... Jesus loved Martha and her sister, and Lazarus. Then when He heard that he is sick, then indeed He remained in the place where He was two days... Jesus wept."
Key moments in this song:
• The sisters' urgent message: "The one whom You love is sick"
• Jesus's intentional two-day delay
• Martha's faith: "I know that he will rise again"
• Jesus's declaration: "I am the Resurrection and the Life"
• The shortest and most powerful verse: "Jesus wept"
Complete Scripture: Every word from John 11:1-35 set to music, from Lazarus falling sick through Jesus arriving at the tomb and weeping with those who mourn.
View Scripture Lyrics (John 11:1-35 KJ3)
And there was a certain sick one,
Lazarus from Bethany,
of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
And it was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment
and wiped His feet with her hair,
whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Then the sisters sent to Him, saying,
Lord, behold, the one whom You love is sick.
And hearing, Jesus said,
This is not sickness to death,
but for the glory of God,
that the Son of God be glorified by it.
And Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
Therefore, when He heard that he is sick,
then, indeed, He remained in the place where He was
two days.
Then after this He said to the disciples,
Let us go to Judea again.
The disciples said to Him,
Rabbi, just now the Jews were seeking to stone You,
and are You going there again?
Jesus answered,
Are there not twelve hours in the day?
If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble
because he sees the light of this world.
But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles
because the light is not in him.
He said these things.
And after this, He said to them,
Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep,
but I am going that I may awaken him.
Then His disciples said,
Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.
But Jesus had spoken about his death,
but they thought that He spoke of the resting of sleep.
Therefore, then Jesus said to them plainly,
Lazarus has died.
And I rejoice because of you,
in order that you may believe,
that I was not there.
But let us go to him.
Then Thomas, the one having been called Twin,
said to the fellow disciples,
Let us also go,
so that we may die with Him.
Therefore coming, Jesus found him
already having been in the tomb four days.
And Bethany was near Jerusalem,
about fifteen stadia from it.
And many of the Jews had come
to the ones around Martha and Mary,
that they might console them concerning their brother.
Then when Martha heard that Jesus is coming,
she went and met Him;
but Mary was sitting in the house.
Then Martha said to Jesus,
Lord, if You were here,
my brother would not have died.
But even now I know
that as many things as You may ask God,
God will give You.
Jesus said to her,
Your brother will rise again.
Martha said to Him,
I know that he will rise again
in the resurrection in the last day.
Jesus said to her,
I am the Resurrection and the Life.
The one believing into Me,
though he die, he shall live.
And everyone living and believing into Me
shall not die to the age, not ever!
Do you believe this?
She said to Him,
Yes, Lord, I have believed
that You are the Christ,
the Son of God who comes into the world.
And saying these things, she went away
and called her sister Mary secretly, saying,
The Teacher is here and calls you.
That one, when she heard,
rose up quickly and came to Him.
And Jesus had not yet come into the village,
but was in the place where Martha met Him.
Then the Jews who were with her in the house,
and consoling her,
seeing that Mary quickly rose up and went out,
they followed her, saying,
She is going to the tomb
so that she may weep there.
Then Mary, when she came where Jesus was,
seeing Him,
she fell at His feet, saying to Him,
Lord, if You were here,
my brother would not have died.
Therefore when He saw her weeping,
and the Jews who came down with her weeping,
Jesus groaned in the spirit
and troubled Himself.
And He said,
Where have you put him?
They said to Him,
Lord, come and see.
Jesus wept.

Sunday Bible Study: When Prayer Feels Pointless
God's Heart for the Hurting • Series Part 5
You've been praying—crying out to God, not just once, but hundreds or thousands of times. And nothing has changed. This isn't about feeling numb; it's about exhaustion from praying and seeing no results. It's watching others' prayers get answered while yours don't. But your prayers aren't pointless, and God's will includes keeping you alive even when you can't see His purposes yet.
What You Can Do:
Keep asking, keep surrendering — Persistently pray while surrendering the outcome
Be honest with God — If you're angry or exhausted, tell Him
Let others pray for you — When you have nothing left, be the body of Christ

Friday Seminar: What Silence Teaches You
What emerges when you sit quietly with yourself? We explored finding stillness in different ways—through nature, morning prayer, late-night study, or even struggling to be still at all. Some of us find God in absolute quiet, others in the sounds of creation. This vulnerable discussion revealed that silence looks different for each of us, and that's okay.
Voices from the Community
Mark: "I don't know how to be silent. I've never have. But when I go outside here in Virginia—the birds, the colors—it brings me to prayer within minutes."
Eileen: "I cry a lot in my quiet time because I'm in the overwhelming spirit of the Lord that He even listens to me. After I'm done crying, I feel so much better."
Al: "When Nancy was in the hospital, I would sit with angelic music, read and pray. That was when I felt God and I were next to each other. I was my most powerful."

"Be still and know that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth."
– Psalms 46:10 (KJ3)
Until next week, may you find comfort knowing that creation groans with you,
that God hears your persistent prayers even when nothing seems to change,
and that His presence remains steady whether you find Him in silence or in the sounds of His creation.
