"He gives strength to the faint, and to him with no vigor He increases power. Even youths are faint and weary, and young men stumbling shall stumble; but the ones waiting for Jehovah shall renew strength; they shall go up with wings as the eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not be faint!" – Isaiah 40:29-31 (KJ3)
Rest for the Weary Soul

This week, we explored what genuine rest actually means—and how easily we mistake busyness for God for intimacy with God. Our Sunday Study examined rest for the weary soul, distinguishing between physical exhaustion and spiritual weariness. The devotional cut to the core issue: intimacy with God is the one thing necessary, yet it's the first thing we abandon when life gets demanding. Through a new song setting Psalm 42 to music, we moved from desperation—'Why are you cast down, O my soul?'—to finding our anchor of hope in God. Friday's seminar explored how we process pain and find transformation through God's presence. One truth unified it all: authentic rest doesn't come from doing less. It flows from God's presence and His Word sustaining us moment by moment—meeting us in our deepest questions and pain with His strength.

Light for Your Path: The One Thing Necessary - Intimacy with God

You can be so busy doing things FOR God that you forget to be WITH God. Life is full of necessary things—legitimate responsibilities, family obligations, ministry tasks. But somewhere in managing it all, we stop making space to simply be with Him. You can read Scripture, check boxes on prayer lists, maintain a "quiet time"—and still feel distant. Because busyness becomes the excuse, and intimacy gets postponed until things calm down. Except things never calm down. Like a tree with deep roots that survives drought by going deep to find water that doesn't dry up, intimacy with God requires going deeper than the surface of our busy lives. It means cutting away even good things to make space for the one thing necessary: treasuring God Himself, not just His blessings or His work through us. When you're serving God without treasuring God, you end up exhausted and resentful. But in His presence, everything finds its proper place. You serve from fullness instead of emptiness, and you have something to give because you've been with the Source.

"Whom is to me in Heaven? And I do not desire any on earth besides You." – Psalm 73:25 (KJ3)

The one thing necessary:
• Intimacy with God requires being WITH Him, not just doing things FOR Him
• Deep roots go down to find sustenance when the surface is dry
• You must cut away even good things to make space for Him
• Being with God means noticing Him, talking to Him, listening, and resting in Him
• Serving from fullness comes from treasuring God Himself, not just His blessings
New Song: My Soul Thirsts for You

Psalm 42 set to music—a journey through the cry of a weary soul. From the opening plea, "As the deer pants after the channels of water, so my soul pants after You," we move through deep sorrow and questioning: tears as daily bread, the taunting question "Where is your God?" Yet the psalm doesn't stay in despair. It returns, again and again, to hope: "I shall yet thank Him." This is a psalm for those who have wept, who have doubted, who have felt God's distance—and who have discovered that He meets us even there. Every word set to music for the spiritually thirsty.

"As the deer pants after the channels of water, so my soul pants after You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and see the face of God?"

Key moments in this song:
• The soul's desperate longing for God—as intense as a deer's thirst for water
• Wrestling with despair: tears as daily food, enemies taunting "Where is your God?"
• Memory of past faithfulness—leading worship before the Lord
• Deep calls to deep—God's presence through overwhelming circumstances
• Hope renewed: "I shall yet thank Him for the salvations of His presence"
Complete Scripture: Every word from Psalm 42 (KJ3) set to music—from the soul's desperate thirst for God through wrestling with despair and doubt, to renewed trust in His presence and faithfulness.

Sunday Bible Study: Rest for the Weary Soul
God's Heart for the Hurting • Series Part 7

Last week we found peace in the storm—God's presence as our anchor even when circumstances don't change. This week is different. This week is about rest—receiving God's strength when we are completely depleted. The apostles returned from ministry exhausted, not from sin, but from obedience. Jesus' response? "Come apart and rest." Most people feel guilty for being weary when serving God. But you're human. God designed each of us with limitations. Even Jesus got tired. The key distinction: physical exhaustion can be fixed by sleep and rest, but spiritual weariness—when your soul is depleted—can only be fixed by God's presence and His Word.

Key Truths About Rest:
Rest is God's design — Built into creation itself through the rhythm of work and rest
Physical and spiritual weariness are different — You can sleep 8 hours and still wake depleted in your soul
Spiritual rest requires God's presence — Not just activity or sleep, but connection with Him
God's strength comes through His Word — Scripture is not a duty; it's worship and the source of spiritual strength

"He gives strength to the faint and to him with no vigor He increases power. Even youths are faint and weary, and young men stumbling shall stumble. But the ones waiting for Jehovah shall renew strength. They shall go up with wings as the eagles." – Isaiah 40:29-31 (KJ3)

How to find rest for the weary soul:
• Recognize rest is not laziness—it's obedience to God's design
• Spend time in God's Word—it's worship and spiritual nourishment
• Wait on the Lord to renew your strength
• Build rest into your life as normal obedience, not emergency intervention
• Remember: without rest, continued service depletes you; waiting on God brings renewal
Friday Seminar: What Do You Do With Your Pain?

Patterns of coping, avoiding, or transforming difficult emotions. In this session, we explore how different people process pain—through faith, spiritual transformation, body-based practices, and community support. From childhood losses to recent traumas, participants share their journeys of finding healing and purpose through their pain.

Voices from the Community
Ernst: "God repurposes our pain to help others experiencing similar pain. Nothing goes to waste in God's economy."
Charlie: "I ran from it. And I'm a runner. I love to run anyway, physically run. But I ran from my problems. And then they compounded."
Eileen: "I just went to the hospital window and I looked up and I said, Lord, you got to help me with this. And he did."
