עַל (ʿal) is an Aramaic preposition meaning upon. It appears 111 times in 2 books of the Hebrew Bible (Strong's H5922).
Root family 2908: עַל ʿal — upon, over, on account of, above, to, against. This preposition answers to both Hebrew ʿal and ʾel. Aramaic does not have ʾel “to.” This circumstance possibly contributes to occasional confusion in the Hebrew texts between ʿal and ʾel. This interchange in Hebrew may be scribal or may be in the language itself (see BDB, p. 757). The use of Aramaic ʿal “to” may be influenced by the Aramaic verb ʿălal “to go in.”
