KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 34 of 36

1 Josiah was a son of eight years when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty one years.

2 And he did the right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in the ways of his father David, and did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

3 And in the eighth year of his reign, and he was still a boy, he began to seek to the God of his father David; and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherahs, and the graven images, and the molten images.

Chapter Summary

Josiah's good reign. He destroys idolatry. Hilkiah finds a book of the law. Josiah sends to Huldah to ask of Jehovah. Huldah prophesies the destruction of Jerusalem, after Josiah's time.

Josiah seeks God in his eighth year and, in his twelfth year, violently purges Judah, Jerusalem, and northern cities of altars, Asherahs, and idols.

In his eighteenth year, Josiah dispatches officials to give collected money to Hilkiah the high priest to pay artisans and builders to repair the temple.
