KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 2 of 25

1 And it happened, when Jehovah was to cause Elijah to go up to Heaven in a tempest, Elijah and Elisha went from Gilgal.

2 And Elijah said to Elisha, Please stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said, As Jehovah lives, and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they went down to Beth-el.

3 And the sons of the prophets in Beth-el came out to Elisha, and said to him, Do you know that today Jehovah will take your lord from your head? And he said, Yes, I know. Keep silent.

Chapter Summary

Elijah divides Jordan with his mantle and is taken to heaven in a fiery chariot. Elisha is acknowledged his successor. Elisha heals the polluted waters with salt. Bears destroy the children that mocked Elisha.

Elijah and Elisha leave Gilgal. Elijah attempts to leave Elisha behind, but Elisha swears not to leave him.

They arrive at Beth-el. The sons of the prophets ask Elisha if he knows Elijah will be taken away; Elisha tells them to keep silent.
