KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 8 of 25

1 And Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had revived, saying, Rise up and go, you and your household. And reside where you can reside, for Jehovah has called for a famine. And also, it shall come on the land seven years.

2 And the woman rose up and did according to the word of the man of God. And she and her household went and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.

3 And it happened at the end of seven years that the woman returned from the land of the Philistines, and went to cry to the king for her house, and for her field.

Chapter Summary

The Shunammite has her land restored by the king. Hazael is sent with a present to Elisha. As Elisha predicted, Hazael kills the king, and succeeds him. Jehoram's wicked reign in Judah.

Timeline

Shunammite Returns from Famine

Following Elisha's warning of a seven-year famine, the Shunammite woman lives with the Philistines. She returns to appeal for her land.

As the king listens to Gehazi recount Elisha's miracles, the Shunammite arrives. Gehazi identifies her, and the king restores all her property and produce.
