KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 9 of 10

1 ¶ And in the twelfth month, that is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day in it, when drew near the word of the king and his law came to be done, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them (though it was turned around, so that the Jews ruled, they over the ones hating them),

2 the Jews assembled in their cities in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus to stretch out a hand against those seeking their evil. And not a man stood in their presence, for their fear fell on all the peoples.

3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and those doing the king' business, were lifting up the Jews, because the fear of Mordecai fell on them.

The Jews Defend Themselves

On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month (Adar), the Jews assemble in their cities and stretch out their hands against their enemies, overpowering those who hated them.

Officials Assist the Jews

All the rulers, satraps, and governors assist the Jews because the fear of Mordecai's growing greatness and fame falls upon them.

Esther 9:3-4
Enemies Killed in Shushan

The Jews strike their enemies with the sword. In the palace of Shushan alone, they kill 500 men, including the ten sons of Haman, but take no plunder.
