KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 5 of 5

¹ O Jehovah, remember what has happened to us; look upon and see our reproach.

² Our inheritance has been turned to aliens, our houses to foreigners.

³ We are orphans. There is no father; our mothers are like widows.

⁴ We have drunk our water for silver; our wood comes for a price.

Loss of Inheritance

The inheritance of the people is turned over to aliens, and their houses to foreigners, leaving them as orphans and widows.

Women are raped in Zion, elders are left unhonored, and youths are forced into hard labor at the hand mill.

Plea for Restoration

Acknowledging that Zion is laid waste, the people plead with Jehovah to return them to Himself and renew their days as of old.
