Hosea 12

A reproof of Ephraim, Judah, and Jacob.

1Ephraim feeds on wind, and follows after the east wind; all the day he multiplies lies and ruin. And they cut a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2And Jehovah has a quarrel with Judah, and will call Jacob to account according to his ways; He will repay to him according to his doings;
3he took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he prevailed with God.
4And he contended with the Angel, and overcame. At Beth-el he wept and pleaded to Him. And He finds us, and there He speaks with us,
5even Jehovah, the God of Hosts. Jehovah is His memorial.
6And therefore you return to your God; keep kindness and judgment, and call on your God continually.
7He is a merchant; the scales of deceit are in his hand; he loves to oppress.
8And Ephraim said, I am rich; I have found much wealth for myself. In all my labors they shall find in me no iniquity that is sin.
9And I am Jehovah, your God from the land of Egypt; yet I will make you live in tents, as in the days of meeting.
10And I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the hand of the prophets I use similitudes.
11Is Gilead evil? Surely they have been vanity. They sacrificed bulls in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the field.
12And Jacob fled into the field of Syria, and Israel served for a wife; even he kept watch for a wife.
13And by a prophet Jehovah brought up Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was guarded.
14Ephraim has provoked Me to anger most bitterly. And He shall leave his blood to him, and his Lord shall turn his reproach to him.
