Separation of Abram and Lot

Due to their great wealth and large herds, strife arises between Abram's herdsmen and Lot's herdsmen. Abram suggests they separate, offering Lot the first choice of land. Lot chooses the well-watered Jordan plain, moving his tents toward Sodom (whose inhabitants were evil). Abram lives in the land of Canaan.

God Renews Promise to Abram

After Lot separates, Jehovah tells Abram to look in all directions, promising to give all the land he sees to him and his seed forever. His seed will be as numerous as the dust of the earth. Abram is instructed to walk through the land.
