Jehovah appears to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre. Abraham, sitting at his tent door, sees three men approaching, runs to meet them, and offers hospitality: water, rest, and food.
Genesis 18:1-8One of the visitors (Jehovah) asks about Sarah. He reiterates the promise that Sarah will have a son 'at the time of life' (next year). Sarah, listening at the tent entrance, laughs within herself due to her old age. Jehovah questions Abraham about Sarah's laughter, affirming that nothing is too difficult for Him. Sarah denies laughing due to fear, but God insists she did.
Genesis 18:9-15The men rise to leave for Sodom. Jehovah considers whether to hide His plans from Abraham, reiterating Abraham's future as a great nation and the blessing of all nations through him. Jehovah reveals that the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is exceedingly heavy, and He will go down to see.
