Timeline

Genesis 45:1-3Joseph tells them to come near. He reassures them not to be grieved or angry that they sold him, explaining that God sent him ahead to save lives during the severe famine (two years in, with five more to come). He emphasizes that God made him a father to Pharaoh, lord of his house, and ruler of Egypt.
Genesis 45:4-8Joseph instructs them to hurry back to Jacob and tell him that his son Joseph is lord of all Egypt, and to come down to him immediately.
