KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 9 of 50

1 And God blessed Noah and his sons. And He said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

2 And your fear and your dread shall be on all the animals of the earth, and on every bird of the heavens, on all that moves on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hands.

3 Every creeping thing which is alive shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green plant.

God's Covenant with Noah

God blesses Noah and his sons, commanding them to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth. He gives them dominion over animals, allowing them to eat all living things, but forbids eating flesh with its lifeblood. He establishes a covenant with Noah and all living creatures that never again will a flood destroy all flesh. The rainbow is set as a sign of this everlasting covenant.

Noah's Drunkenness and Canaan's Curse

Noah plants a vineyard, drinks wine, and becomes drunk, uncovering himself in his tent. Ham (father of Canaan) sees his father's nakedness and tells his brothers outside. Shem and Japheth take a garment, walk backward, and cover their father without looking. Noah awakes, curses Canaan to be a slave to his brothers, and blesses Shem and Japheth.
