KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 8 of 16

1 The crowd being very great in those days, and not having anything they may eat, Jesus, calling His disciples near, said to them,

2 I have compassion on the crowd because now three days they remain with Me, and they do not have what they may eat.

3 And if I send them away fasting to their house, they will faint in the way, for some of them come from afar.

Chapter Summary

Feeding the Four Thousand

Moved with compassion for a crowd that had remained with Him three days in a desolate place, Jesus multiplies seven loaves and a few fish to feed four thousand people, leaving seven baskets of surplus.

Pharisees Demand a Sign

Arriving in Dalmanutha, the Pharisees tempt Jesus by seeking a sign from Heaven. Jesus sighs deeply in His spirit and declares no sign will be given to this generation.

Warning Against the Leaven

In the boat, the disciples realize they only have one loaf. Jesus warns them to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod, rebuking their hardheartedness and failure to understand the previous miraculous feedings.
