KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 37 of 50

1 And Jacob lived in the land of his father's travels, in the land of Canaan.

2 These are the generations of Jacob: Joseph, a son of seventeen years, was feeding the flock with his brothers, with Bilhah's sons and with Zilpah's sons, his father's wives. And he was a youth. And Joseph brought an evil report of them to their father.

3 And Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was a son of old age to him. And he made a tunic reaching to the soles of his feet.

Joseph's Youth and Dreams

Jacob (Israel) lives in Canaan. Joseph, at 17, shepherds with his half-brothers (sons of Bilhah and Zilpah) and brings a bad report of them to Jacob. Jacob loves Joseph most, making him a coat of many colors. His brothers hate him and cannot speak peacefully to him. Joseph dreams of his sheaf standing tall while his brothers' sheaves bow to it, and later, of the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowing to him. He tells these dreams to his brothers and father; his brothers hate him more and are jealous, but his father observes the matter.
