In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, comes against all the fortified cities of Judah and captures them.
Isaiah 36:1Sennacherib sends his chief cupbearer from Lachish to Jerusalem. He mocks Hezekiah's trust in Egypt and in Jehovah, claiming God ordered the invasion.
Isaiah 36:2-10Judean officials ask the cupbearer to speak Aramaic, but he refuses and shouts in Judean to the people on the wall, warning them not to trust Hezekiah's promises of divine deliverance.
