KJ3 Literal Translation — Chapter 19 of 21

¹ Therefore, then, Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him.

² And having plaited a wreath out of thorns, the soldiers put it on His head. And they threw a purple garment around Him,

³ and said, Hail, King of the Jews! And they were giving Him slaps.

Chapter Summary

Pilate

Scourges Jesus, finds no cause of death, yields to the crowd to crucify Him, and writes the title on the cross

Jesus Christ

Scourged, crowned with thorns, crucified at Golgotha; says I thirst and It has been finished, then dies

Demand crucifixion, invoke their law that He made Himself Son of God, and cry they have no king but Caesar

Soldiers

Crown Him with thorns, crucify Him, divide His garments and cast lots, and pierce His side with a spear

Chief priests

Cry out Crucify and protest Pilate's title, declaring We have no king except Caesar

Joseph of Arimathea

A secret disciple who asks Pilate for the body of Jesus and, with Nicodemus, buries Him in a new tomb

Crucifixion and Death

Jesus is crucified at Golgotha. He entrusts His mother to the beloved disciple, receives vinegar, declares 'It has been finished,' and dies.

Burial

Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus prepare Jesus' body with myrrh and aloes and bury Him in a new garden tomb.
